I graduated with a first class degree honours in international tourism and environmental sustainability. I have worked in the care industry for over ten years as a live in carer, in supported living and community. I have experience working with people with learning disabilities, mental health, dementia, children, vulnerable adults, and I have an enriched understanding of policies and procedures of the Care Act and Safeguarding of Vulnerable Groups. I take pride in implementing personal centred support plans which focus on the individual's welfare, needs, wants, interests yet giving a high standard of care to every individual whilst promoting independence. As a live in care, my client relies on me for emotional, physical and practical support to get through with their daily lives. One of the most important skills I have drawn into being a carer is communication in the form of verbal, non verbal and active listening helps me understand my client's needs, it builds trust with their families and coordinating with external services and professionals. This has helped to understand that every individual is different and hence is the level of support which requires patience, empathy and compassion to manage every situation calmly with the purpose of achieving independence and building trust. My approach is to support my client with the choices they make as we plan our daily, weekly or monthly program/activities and I provide a lot of encouragement. On a typical day, I like to promote independence and support my clients to do as little or much as they can depending on an individual's situation from personal care, engaging in meal preparations and encouraging freshly homemade meals. I help them choose whatever they fancy from the television entertainment list of the day to ensure they are entertained. I also encourage and organise indoor, outdoor activities and outings such as gardening, shopping, swimming, garden centre, visiting friends or family, going to church, day centre, activity clubs (sewing, knitting, bingo) etcetera. During my free time, I like to volunteer at my local church community. I do befriending vulnerable adults either by visiting them or by telephone through my church. I am involved in environmental sustainability platforms where I encourage living more sustainably to save our planet in the UK and Africa. I like to travel sustainably to different parts of the world that are least visited. especially to learn more about culture and learn how people live sustainably and whilst at that, i read a lot about history and current affairs of those destinations that I intend to tour. I love cooking freshly made food and gardening, cleaning whilst listening to oldies music.
