Compassionate, patient, thorough, dependable, with a high degree of empathy.
I am a conscientious and enthusiastic carer with over 11 years of experience (over 7.5 in UK), looking after people with a variety of conditions. (all forms of Dementia, Parkinson's, palliative care) I aim to offer person centred care, in a holistic manner, adapted to their particular needs and aspirations. I am passionate about improving the quality of life of people in my care and assisting them in achieving their full potential. I take great delight in enabling individuals to remain in the comforts of their home, within a familiar and supportive environment and I understand the importance of working together with their social circle, so as to best facilitate their well being and independence. For my services, I have been honoured as a finalist, in the "Placing People First" category, of The Great British Care Awards.
I have worked across a range of roles. First with two leading agencies and then as a self employed live in carer.
Some examples include:
-Bed bound gentleman, with dementia, personal and catheter care, including hoisting
-Vascular dementia, with challenging behaviours
-Palliative Care with end stage Alzheimer's-Parkinson's with dementia and hallucinations
-Brain injury, with full hoist and wheelchair support
-Young onset dementia (received special training, including family support, interviewed by The Guardian on it)
-Korsakoff's, supporting a person dealing with alcoholism
-Support with Oxygen therapy, after training
-Support with reduced/deteriorating kidney/heart functions and relevant conditions
-Frequently assigned to prevent recurring falls, or assist in recovery and physiotherapy, after hospitalisation
-Assignments included VIPs and nobility
-After relevant training, assisted in culturally/religiously- sensitive, placements
-Fond memories of assisting couples, where focus was primarily on the husband
I enjoy meeting new people and I am fascinated by different cultures. When at home, I like reading, music, watching films and exercising. I also enjoy going for a walk and being in nature. I am interested in all aspects of healthy living. At my own time, I have been proactive in setting up and participating in charities, social enterprises and I am interested in global affairs and development. I have worked with international charities and multinational teams. I have a BSc in Computer Science (Software Engineering with Business Studies) from the University of Birmingham and a degree in Biblical Studies. My training included psychology and counselling. I am proactive in using technology to improve the lives of people I care for, starting from my elderly father. I enjoy a good laugh, wholesome, deep, conversations and people tend to find me knowledgeable in a range of topics.
---Training & Continuous Learning---
Part of my additional certification includes Young Onset Dementia (supporting the individual and their families) and End of Life Care.
I am Neurodivergence aware and trauma informed. Genuine interest in others, in combination with a high degree of empathy and active listening, often results in an enriching, uplifting and even therapeutic experience.
There is a lot of experience in relating to traumatized individuals (in various roles and settings) including those with PTSD. Last time I was in Greece, I received a certificate in Psychological First Aid.
I possess ample experience in palliative care, both formal and personal.
There is also significant experience in working with social services to safeguard clients.
Having engaged in helping elderly clients, to follow the instructions of physiotherapists, impressive results were achieved (within six months), to the point of not requiring any further intervention.
There is an increasing breadth of knowledge on nutrition and exercise, not only in relation to dementia and the aging process, but also in relation to managing blood sugar levels.
Given my Computer Science background, the latest tech has been used resourcefully and innovatively, not only in offering essential solutions but also to empower and enrich clients' lives.
Being experienced in working together with other health professionals, I was honoured to achieve Continuing Healthcare, CHC (a most significant, fully funded package of care) for one of my clients, thanks to the level of documentation maintained over half a year.
I have been a carer throughout Covid and neither me, nor any of those in my care, contracted Covid. This included my immunosuppressed father.
---Availability & Next Steps---
After providing intensive palliative care for my father under extremely challenging circumstances until his passing, I took some time to rest and recover. I am now returning to full‑time work gradually and am currently available for flexible arrangements, including:
- Part‑day support
- Weekend live in cover for a main carer (for example, Friday evening to Sunday evening)
- Holiday cover for a live‑in carer (typically one week or longer)
I am based in London, but I am able to travel more widely for week‑long assignments.
I would be very happy to discuss how I can best support your needs and explore whether I am the right fit for you or your loved one.
