My name is Pat (Tendai) and l live in Colchester Essex. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to put forward my interest as a live in carer.
I have over 20 years experience in varied Care settings from complex needs ( severe learning disabilities, mental health), elderly care (dementia, Parkinsons, Palliative care) to working with adolescents with behavioural problems. In have experience working In both hospital and community setting on a rota basis (shift work) as well a 24 hour carer in community settings including complex care in Spinal Cord Injury, Muscular Dystrophy and MS which also extended to Live in care.
Some of my past experiences consisted of a lengthy permanent post with an active 90 year sweet lady who loved life and going out and about, sadly this came to an end after 3 years, she battled with dementia for 16 yrs, and also had mild Epilepsy which made her prone to falls until it became tablet controlled. She had swallowing difficulties that led her being put on a texture c diet (pureed and thickened foods), this also paused a high risk on her health and made her prone to chests infections. Sadly she eventually succumbed to Aspirational Pneumonia and the family made the difficult decision of placing her in a hospice for palliative care due to her numerous and difficult hospitals admissions and lack of quality of life. l have also had the pleasure on separate occasions of being a relief live in carer looking after a 95 year old gentleman, and, an 84 year lady who both suffered from dementia, Parkinson's, Rheumatoid Arthritis after my permanent post ended.
My placements have been rewarding and happy experiences filled with mutual respect, trust and wonderful companionship with my clients and their individual families. They have also taught me patience, empathy and generosity of my time.
I am a sociable and outgoing person who enjoys building new relationships with both my clients and their families because in order for me to effect and my enjoy job and meet my clients needs, it's important that l establish a open honest, supportive and understanding working relationship with the families for they know the quality of life their family member requires and how to improve on it for consistency is important to clients with dementia.
I look forward to hearing from you.
