Due to my 14 years experience as mental health recovery support worker, I strengthened my interpersonal, communication and listening skills which are vital when working directly with patients.
I am also able to deal with stressful situations accordingly.

Working with individuals recovering from mental health disorders for more than a decade has taught me to better understand adult patients living with mental health disorders such as schizophrenia, bi-polar disorder, personality disorders, GAD , eating disorders and depression. I have learnt that not every individual with the same disorder will present the same symptoms. I consider myself to be an extremely patient, caring, understanding and non-judgemental person, which is why I feel as though I work well in this field. As aforementioned, individuals are different therefore each require a tailored support plan. Working as a mental health recovery support worker I have had to deal with challenging behaviour. For that reason, certain patients will require a different level of care. This has allowed me to work innovatively and gain the ability to adapt accordingly.
Studying a NVQ Level 3 has increased by knowledge of psychological theories and practices. It has taught me how to better understand individuals and how to reflect on the way I provide support to my service users. It also taught me that I am able to work under pressure and still produce a brilliant standard of work.
My current role has allowed me to utilise this knowledge and apply it in real life. These skills and knowledge are transferable and will be utilised within any roles.
I am extremely passionate about helping others and truly believe a problem shared is a problem halved. I enjoy helping others help themselves, allowing others to gain valuable skills required to be able to deal with certain situations and make an educated and informed decision.
