I would describe myself as funny, kind, empathetic, and easy to get along with. I genuinely enjoy making a positive difference in people's lives, and I understand that life can sometimes be challenging. Coming from a large family, caring for and being around others has always come naturally to me. I believe everyone deserves to be treated with kindness, dignity, and compassion, whether they are family, friends, or someone I have only just met.
I began working in care at the age of 19, initially as a side job, but it quickly became something I genuinely enjoyed. I now have around ten years of hands-on experience across a wide range of health and social care settings, including nursing homes, residential care, and live-in care.
Throughout my career, I have supported individuals with a variety of complex and differing needs, including dementia, mental health conditions, challenging behaviour, stroke, acquired brain injury, neurological impairment, deafness, blindness, and physical disabilities. I also have experience in palliative and end-of-life care, oncology, catheter care, and supporting individuals with spinal injuries, including C4 injuries and paraplegia.
My professional training and care skills include the Care Certificate, First Aid, Manual Handling, Fire Safety, Health and Safety, Food and Fluid Nutrition, Medication Administration, Spinal Injury Care, Palliative Care, End-of-Life Care, and Oncology.
The extensive hands-on experience I have gained has been an invaluable part of my journey within health and social care. It has taught me that excellent care is about much more than completing daily tasks. It is about understanding the individual, respecting their choices, promoting their independence, and providing care in a way that allows them to feel safe and comfortable in their own home. I am always looking for ways to maintain and improve the standard of care I provide.
Outside of work, I enjoy travelling around the UK, both for care assignments and during my own time. My love of travelling has also contributed to my passion for cooking. Whether I am preparing a traditional English Sunday roast, a Turkish tava, or trying something completely new from a cookbook, I genuinely enjoy being in the kitchen. When appropriate, I love preparing fresh, hearty, and nutritious meals for my clients and making mealtimes something they can look forward to.
When I am not cooking, you will usually find me walking through the countryside or simply out exploring. This is something I also enjoy sharing with the people I care for. Where an individual's health, mobility, and preferences allow, I am happy to support outings, walks, and visits to new places.
For me, companionship is an essential part of providing good care. Taking the time to talk, listen, laugh, and discover someone's interests can make an enormous difference to their quality of life. Outings and shared activities can also provide a wonderful opportunity to build trust and develop a genuine professional relationship with a client.
I have recently relocated to Salisbury, Wiltshire, and I am currently looking for day or night care opportunities within the local area. I hold a full, clean manual UK driving licence, although I do not currently have my own vehicle. This is something I intend to change in the near future.
Due to childcare commitments, my ideal daytime hours would be approximately 9:00 am–3:00 pm, although I am also available for night shifts. I am comfortable working independently or as part of a micro-team alongside other care professionals.
I am also available at weekends and would be very happy to provide respite care for families who need additional support or simply some well-deserved time to themselves. Above all, I aim to provide the type of care I would want for someone in my own family: compassionate, respectful, dependable, and centred around the individual. I want the people I support to feel safe, listened to, and valued while maintaining as much independence and quality of life as possible.
