Hi, my name is Lorene, but please call me Joyce. I worked in disability care services for six years. My duties included caring for an individual, taking her to activities and playgroups, shopping, and using the library to help her with a computer. Through this experience, I developed good timekeeping skills, utilised my social and communication skills, and demonstrated technology skills. I have worked with various clients, including those with spinal injuries, strokes, dementia, the elderly, and brain injuries. I have provided support work and home care, gaining valuable experience in different care sectors. I am a caring, attentive, patient, and committed person who enjoys supporting others. Additionally, I have completed several courses over the years to improve my skills and enhance my performance in my role.
I have also worked in hospitals (St James Hospital, LGI Hospital, Allerton Hospital, and Wharfedale Hospital) as a career assistant, helping residents meet their health and social care needs, including washing, toileting, bed-making, and preparing meals and drinks. I assisted residents in identifying and choosing their support needs alongside a full care assistant. Furthermore, I have been working as a live-in carer with my current agency for over two years, which has taken me all over the country, including Scotland. I enjoy live-in care as I can provide one-to-one assistance with personal care, such as washing, dressing, continence care, taking prescribed medicines, and helping with cooking and meal preparation. I also focus on preventing falls and accidents in the home, providing general care, including laundry, gardening, administrative tasks, companionship, and support with social interaction. I’ve provided companion care and formed friendships through this role. Working as a live-in carer has allowed me to visit some wonderful places in the UK. I am very passionate about my job and find joy in putting a smile on someone’s face who looks to me for support.
