From a young age, I knew I wanted to be a carer after we took my grandmother to a care home and the care assistants were so friendly. I realised that this was the same thing I wanted to do: see the elderly happy in the latter stages of their lives. I have five years of experience in care, with expertise in learning disabilities, as well as working with early and late-stage dementia patients. I began my career in a care home, where I gained significant experience in moving and handling, using different equipment such as hoists, Sara Steady, and commodes. My longest live-in role was two years with the same client who had Parkinson’s and dementia, during which I was also responsible for medication safeguarding, so I acquired a lot of experience in that area. I love the outdoors and enjoy taking walks and gardening. I consider myself a tidy person, so I don’t mind doing light housework, such as cleaning up after myself and my client and tackling a bit of dusting and other light tasks.
