Over the last few years’, I have been involved in both charity and community development projects where I have been privileged to hold roles of increased responsibilities by helping individuals, families, groups, and communities to enhance their individual and collective well-being.
I enjoyed helping individuals develop their skills and use their abilities and the resources available to them within the community to provide a solution to their various needs or challenges. I realised that there is a need for people who are passionate about joining a team of resilient, patient , passionate and caring people who have a collective goal or aim of alleviating the conditions of those in our community who suffer from various forms of social deprivation. Especially issues that are currently reflecting from the impact of the ongoing global pandemic. This is the reason wby I decided to choosing a career as a Carer and Support worker
I have had the privilege of completing various degree programmes that have been useful including the NVQ Level 3: working with children and young people which has enabled me to develop a unique way of practice when engaging with people, interdisciplinary professionals, colleagues on different issues arising during my work experience whilst working with Children, Young people and their Families. I have been able to reflect on my knowledge about the laws, legislations and different government policies involved in Health and social care, learning about abuse and the various forms it could present in any individual and how to apply my skills, experiences and knowledge to support individuals in making a positive choice of their current situations.
Although, I understand that working as a healthcare assistant , support worker or a nurse is much more than learning about legislations and rules and regulations.
The range of experiences gained whilst working with children and families, as well as the elderly and vulnerable adults left me with various indelible, proficient, and excellent skills relevant to the health and social care sector. One of such skills is offering a listening ear, the ability to be a good listener is one of such beautiful skills that has been very useful to me both personally and professionally.
I have successfully, together with my partner raised children of our own, this is a life skill and has improved my confidence that I am able to relate to families dealing with various challenges in everyday life. During my stint as a carer for both my aged parents, I developed the ability to understand and apply various communication skills needed to support the elderly and vulnerable adults as well. This is quite fulfilling, realizing that I can give my profound support in making life comfortable and meaningful for individuals.
