I was there from October 2018 to November 2019 and gained experience on all three floors, residential, dementia and nursing/palliative. The initial training covered the Care Certificate and since then my training in safeguarding and moving and handling has been kept up to date. I believe my main strengths in this job are my positive relationships with the residents, my thoroughness, my stamina and my cheerful disposition but I believe that, above all, I’m kind and thoughtful. My first job in care was in 2014 when I worked for Autism Care UK looking after a young man with autism (2:1 due to his occasional violence). I enjoyed that for 2 years before returning to supply teaching which I have been doing sporadically since 2013. I also worked for a care agency and so got experience of working in different care environments. Between 2010 and 2013, I lived and worked in Beijing as an English teacher to Chinese people, a very enjoyable and illuminating experience. Prior to 2010, I was an FE teacher in the UK for 9 years. In the 70s and 80s I worked as an NHS manager. My hobbies are cycling, guitar, reading and dog training.
