I have a high level of professionalism and consider my integrity an essential part of what I bring to the table as a carer. I have received much support and encouragement from both clients and employers, but the most satisfying validation was one I received recently from my manager who told me that if they could clone me, they would. That being said, it certainly hasn’t gone to my head and I won’t be resting on my laurels any time soon. I think compassion is enormously important in a carer, as well as honesty, the ability to listen also a good sense of humour will never go amiss. I’ve done quite a lot of complex care, an happy to double up in 2 carer jobs, also fine with pets and resident family members. I am discreet when there are other people besides the client living in the house and attempt as best as possible not to encroach on peoples’ space and relationships. I like cooking (I’m a vegan but I’m happy to cook non- vegan food) and am a voracious reader, I play acoustic guitar, enjoy many types of music, worked in a pottery studio and several antique shops and galleries to support myself through university and like a bit of gardening, I grew up in a family of artists and appreciate aesthetics greatly. I’m a little quirky- I have blue hair- but fundamentally I’m pretty old fashioned and appreciate the gentler, less brash manners of days gone by. I’m an all year round sea swimmer. I was born in South Africa and like to return annually. I think some people are at their best when they are being of service to others, the older I get, the more I understand that I am one of these people.
