I have a lot of experience with elderly through my work in care homes and also private work. When I was growing up in South Africa I looked after my grandparents and I was taught to have respect for my elders. I enjoy helping clients with everyday chores and forming friendships with them. This is very rewarding work for me. I try to gauge activities on a client by client basis. For example one of my clients likes to bake and is keen to teach me her skills. Some clients like to go for short walks or trips to the shops. I believe I am a very reliable person and I will always do my best for my clients. I am very adaptable and I have worked with children with behavioural problems, people with physical disabilities, people with dementia and elderly people who just need a bit of extra help in their homes. 1 0 {"field_week_day_first":1,"field_is_available_first":true,"field_care_type_first":"4, 5","field_week_day_second":2,"field_is_available_second":true,"field_care_type_second":"4, 5","field_week_day_third":3,"field_is_available_third":true,"field_care_type_third":"4, 5","field_week_day_fourth":4,"field_is_available_fourth":true,"field_care_type_fourth":"4, 5","field_week_day_fifth":5,"field_is_available_fifth":true,"field_care_type_fifth":"4, 5","field_week_day_sixth":6,"field_is_available_six":true,"field_care_type_sixth":"4, 5","field_week_day_seven":7,"field_is_available_seven":true,"field_care_type_seven":"4, 5"}

I then assisted a family member who suffered mental health issues then recently with the onset of dementia of both my parents. This led me into professional care work both as a care at home assistant and support practioner supporting vulnerable adults in the community by helping with personal care, medication, moving and handling, housekeeping, cooking, shopping, companionship and social activities. I also have experience working with dementia both early and advanced and also multiple sclerosis clients assisting with PEG feeding and catheter needs with some stoma experience. I have an energetic spirit and enjoy helping others gain as much independence as possible through respect, dignity and compassion. I have completed workplace training and working towards an HNC in Social Care. I'm also fully registered with the Scottish Social Services Council. I have completed an HNC in Administration and IT as well as possess a SVQ2 in Professional Cookery. I enjoy going to the gym regularly and find myself cooking and baking for therapeutic reasons and enjoy versatility. I am friendly, understanding, sociable and generally a good companion. Please note I do not do waking nights. I offer respite live-in and overnight support and holiday and sickness cover for regular carers. I do not do short visits but I'm happy to discuss your needs if longer periods are needed. I'm pet-friendly, very happy to help look after animals and to cook and/or bake, and to help with gardening, cleaning and tidying, or help with personal care - anything you need, just ask! Everyone is unique and has different needs so the rates given are a guide and always include, of course, insurance, DBS check, Curam fees and VAT. I am also sometimes available for Christmas and New Year cover at my standard rates... please just ask. Please note that I am mask exempt and will not be taking any vaccinations. Not having any grandparents I was drawn to older people as a child and would visit older neighbours and help with ironing, tidying around and filling out forms. I was always fascinated by their early life experiences and loved hearing their stories. On leaving school I went into farming, then to University to study Countryside Management, after which I took a few years out to volunteer in my home town, training as an advisor at my local Citizens' Advice Bureau and with the WRVS delivering Meals On Wheels. In 1997 I moved to London and spent an exciting five years as a Transport Planner and then four years in the Lake District National Park Authority as Traffic & Transport Officer. I started a family in 2002. In 2011 I started working for a local community care organisation, had first aid and medication training and quickly became a Senior Carer taking on Out of Hours management and staff rotas. I then spent two years as a Medical Secretary at a GP practice, consolidating my medical knowledge, and left there to spend the past five years looking after my progressively ill mother, who was nursed in bed with a permanent catheter for the last two years of her life. I was her sole advocate, had Power of Attorney for both financial and health & welfare, and managed her personal affairs as well as her care. I enjoy cleaning, organising, cooking and helping people to get the very most out of life in a limiting situation... I have seen both sides of caring: as both a carer and a broker of care packages. I care about timekeeping, doing things properly and providing added value. Rather than be a time-pressured employee of an agency, I relish the opportunity to make meaningful connections with people and develop trusted friendships: this was what I wanted for my mum. I have a current Enhanced Disclosure certificate and in my previous employment as a community carer I completed medication and moving & handling training, but do not have the paperwork to hand at the moment. I am presently learning Italian, renovating my house and building a wildlife garden and pond, and I enjoy 1940s, 1950s music and classical piano. {"field_week_day_first":1,"field_is_available_first":"0","field_care_type_first":null,"field_week_day_second":2,"field_is_available_second":"0","field_care_type_second":null,"field_week_day_third":3,"field_is_available_third":"0","field_care_type_third":null,"field_week_day_fourth":4,"field_is_available_fourth":"0","field_care_type_fourth":null,"field_week_day_fifth":5,"field_is_available_fifth":"0","field_care_type_fifth":null,"field_week_day_sixth":6,"field_is_available_six":"0","field_care_type_sixth":null,"field_week_day_seven":7,"field_is_available_seven":"0","field_care_type_seven":null}

For over twenty years, I've dedicated my life to what I love most—providing care and support to some truly remarkable individuals. My approach is infused with a vibrant personality, a hearty dose of humour, a good measure of common sense, an abundance of love, and exceptional organizational skills, all aimed at ensuring your loved ones receive the highest standard of care. My caregiving journey was ignited by a personal experience of caring for a family member. This profound experience sparked my passion for helping others and illuminated the significant impact that compassionate care can have on someone's life. It was a transformative moment that set me on a path to pursue caregiving as my life's work. As I ventured into this fulfilling career, I was captivated by caregiving's diverse opportunities. This journey of discovery fueled my desire to learn and grow, leading me to develop a deep understanding of the laws and regulations that govern this sector. My adaptability shines through in my ability to work seamlessly independently and as part of a dedicated team. Each new client I meet is a chance for me to make a meaningful difference, and this prospect motivates me to hone my skills and deepen my knowledge continuously. In my role, I am dedicated to advocating for your loved ones, fostering their independence, and safeguarding their confidentiality, privacy, and dignity. I believe in partnering with them, working 'with' rather than 'to' them, to build relationships based on mutual trust and respect. Although I don't drive, this doesn't hinder my ability to facilitate outings and activities for your loved ones.
